In 1964, I went
to see The Who open for Herman's Hermits. I left before Herman took the
stage.
"The Who Sell Out" came out right after the band's early singles phase, and just before the bloated excess of their later "rock opera" phase. Perhaps the original "concept album", it featured odd little snippets of radio promotional messages interspersed between killer pop tunes.
You gotta love the cover.
