Who'd have thought: A classically trained, traditional Indian Sitar player at a Rock Festival in the 60's? This recording captures an absolutely breathtaking performance. No other album reminds me so much of Cream's "Wheels of Fire". Brilliant interplay by a trio of master musicians featuring astounding, heated improvisation.
I read an interview somewhere once where Shankar commented on this show. The circumstances of the outdoor "pop music" festival were quite foreign to a man used to playing in grand classicval concert halls in his native country.
However bizarre the gig must have seemed to him, the result was n inspired, classic performance.
