John Fahey's career
spanned over 40 years and 40 albums. I saw him perform many times during
his lifetime. I have a deep respect for everything he did - some things
more than others.
Fare Forward Voyagers totally blew me away. An intense suite of 3 pieces, one of which strung together snippets of many of his earlier songs into a remarkable tour de force. The other two were bold modal excursions in a completely new direction.
This is a powerhouse acoustic guitar masterwork
Of his early albums, Volume 3 ("The Dance of Death and Other Plantation Favorites") was my favorite. A fitting endpiece to the trilogy of his first 3 releases of guitar solos, this one continued and expanded the tradition of old blues songs and new compositions.
