HENRY KAISER
What can one say about the unpredictable Henry Kaiser? Henry's searing electric guitar is exactly what it should be
exactly when it should be. My instructions to Henry, who is a master improvisor, were more emotionally based than
they were musical references: things like "you're miserable", "you're confused", "you're angry". I believe the closest
I came to actual musical direction was something like "G is a pretty good note anywhere in this song."
Henry then took whatever ball he was handed and just ran with it. His contributions absolutely make the songs he's heard on.
I remember explaining to Henry that we would be adding some stormy sound effects after he played his part on
"And Then It Rained"; that was, after all, the plan. Henry's playing so perfectly captured the feeling of the song that
doing so would have detracted rather than added. Needless to say we left it as-is, except for a climatic thunderclap at the end.
