SONGS AND STUFF
Making this album has been, hands-down, the most incredible experience of my musical life.
It was a
lot of work and a
lot of fun. Each friend involved in the process helped make this an amazing album
and a total blast to work on.
There are 12 songs, of which half are vocals, half instrumentals. 10 of these are original compositions.
One of the instrumentals is a cover of The Who's "Happy Jack".
There is also a virtually unrecognizable cover of The Rolling Stones'
"Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" which producer Terry Robb has likened to, say,
free-jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman playing "Jumping Jack Flash".
It is something of a space-age bluegrass jam session between myself and harmonica master Bill Rhoades.
Styles wander around from folk to modern rock to blues, with some side-trips into more obscure netherworlds.
Moods range from absolutely depressed to so happy you could scream.
The lyrics tell stories dealing with such real-life topics as lost friends
(And Then It Rained), dying in a hospital
(Demerol),
new cars and old girlfriends
(Everyting Changes, Nothing Stays the Same),
lifes little ups and downs
(The Top of Another Drop),
a rousing party
(Let's Have a Party - It's Bazil)),
and a robbery
(Was Anyone Seen in the Area?).
