SCHEDULED TO APPEAR:
From the Oregon coast, PAUL CHASMAN dazzles audiences with his unique compositions and creative
playing on both steel-string and classical guitars. His pieces elegantly fuse modern classical,
folk, and jazz styles. GUITAR PLAYER magazine has described his harmonics technique
as "simply astounding, as is his ability to execute two or three parts simultaneously."
From Berkeley, event organizer PHIL KELLOGG was Fahey’s opening
act in the early 1980’s and maintained an ongoing
relationship with the guitarist that was part student,
part friend. His album "Passive-Aggressive" twists
itself oddly around the blues, pop, flamenco, folk
and other areas. Kellogg's music can turn on a dime from gentle, elegant passages to searing blues riffs.
Phil is a frequent
Bay Area performer.
From Minnesota,
legendary guitarist PETER LANG recorded several albums
for John’s TAKOMA RECORDS label. Peter has returned
full-force from several years’ absence with the release
of his album "Dharma Blues". GUITAR PLAYER magazine states that
"...there’s no one that can
touch (his) lyrical complexity and dazzling sparkle..."
From Vietnam by way of Oregon, TINH MAHONEY was a long-time student and
friend of Fahey's. Tinh's music boldly wanders the streets
of both his homelands, varying between darkly foreboding and brightly bluesy.
Fahey, who produced Tinh's first release, described his music as a
"characteristic blend of classical, folk, and Asian guitar.
Tinh recently wrote several exceptionally provocative pieces that expand on the Asian idiom."
From Portland, guitarist TERRY ROBB has become a
West Coast tradition. Whether performing solo, with his All Star Blues
Orchestra, or with his Acoustic Blues Trio, Terry's deft finger-picking
never fails to amaze.
Terry was a frequent Producer, opening act, and duet
partner of John’s throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, and was recently honored
with his 13th Muddy Award
as the northwest’s Best Acoustic Guitarist.
From Seattle comes RICK RUSKIN, a Takoma recording artist who also
appeared on some of John’s own albums as a duet partner. GUITAR PLAYER
described Ruskin as "so brilliant at times that he seems to transcend normal
approaches to the guitar... Ruskin may be the smoothest technical player around.
Flashy, fast, inventive and musical and that isn't easy"
John Fahey will join us all in spirit.
