WHAT IS A PHIL KELLOGG SHOW?
I have been performing for over 25 years, and playing for 40 years. I am very comfortable in front of an audience, and
enjoy interacting with them. Generally, I perform as a soloist, but occasionally I may bring along an amazing friend or two.
People often describe my music and my performances as adventurous and unique.
Typically, my sets consist of about 70% instrumentals, with the remainder vocals. Most are original compositions,
but I also throw in some covers of old blues tunes and 1960's pop songs. My music can
be intense; it can also be quite tender. Some songs are happy, some funny, some sad, and every emotion in between.
I write about relationships, growing up, parties, cars, robberies, hospital beds... all manner of life's little ups and downs.
I enjoy being a headliner or an opening act. I have played hundreds of small to medium-sized rooms, mostly
in California and Oregon. I have made multiple appearances at Berkeley's legendary
Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse,
as well as
The Old Church
in Portland and countless
Borders Books and Music outlets. I've also played dozens of other coffeehouses, bars, etc,
including
Blakes on Telegraph,
Brainwash,
Strings, and many others.
I am probably best-known for my "John Fahey Tribute Concert" series, which has enjoyed 3 editions
thus far. For these and many other shows, I have acted as not just performer but also promoter, organizer, and emcee.
The Tribute series has brought together musicians from across the country including Peter Lang, Terry Robb, Henry Kaiser,
Rick Ruskin and others. These are high-profile events, featuring extensive on-air radio and print promotion.
